My creature from falling into Rarohenga is the Ponaturi. The Ponaturi is a water person that lives in the underwater village. They helped a boy called Kae and made a waka and then went under the surface. The boy Kae thought they were mermaids. The boy Kae played a song for the Ponaturi and they hummed to the music.
In Maori History the ponaturi are a group of Hostile creatures and they look like goblins.
They spend most of their time in the water.
They come out of the water to sleep in the evening sun.
They are in a number of stories like: the story of Tawhaki.
In the story of falling into Rarohenga the ponaturi helped a boy needed to get across The river and they gave him a boat as a thank you for the song he sang for them.
Falling Into Rarohenga: The Ponaturi
The Ponaturi is a part of the story of falling into Rarohenga they helped a boy called Kae to get across the river to find his sister Tui. Tui went with a Taniwha and it had paua coloured eyes. Kae was singing a song for the Ponaturi and they hummed to the music. The river of Rarohenga is where the Ponaturi live and they live in a village at the bottom of the river.
The story of the Ponaturi
Ponaturi was in New Zealand for a long time. Now they are a legend and New Zealanders believe that they were real and I believe in them as well. When a boy called Kae sang to a ponaturi and then more came and hummed to the sound of the ukulele Kae was playing.
